What have I produced?
The films of Refik Anadol, Oskar Fischinger & Marcel Duchamp inspire this video. It is my digital abstract tondo with generic sound effects. It is a non-specific looping of changed palettes and perspectives. It is movement, pixels and colours.
Infinate Void (Video)
(Drag, thrust, lift, roll pitch and yaw. Shake, bump, fall and shudder).
Question
Would this film/video project be on a wall with an exhibition of digital tondos?
Yes, I think so.
What else have I produced?
"In Plane Sight - Exhibition" link to virtual draft exhibition;
A series of tondos encapsulate my profound connection with the world of aviation and the unique perspectives it offers. I draw inspiration from the intimate portholes of an aircraft cabin. Through a deliberate play of spatial dimensions, I have artfully captured the essence of lateral viewpoints that have become second nature to me. With a connection with the landscape using paint layering and application as a form of terrain, each piece blends traditional artistic expressions with digital interventions.

The digital world offers me a new way to showcase my work. With virtual exhibitions, I can travel globally from wherever I am, which is a big advantage. While I miss the physical touch of my artwork, I still remember its importance. I can choose to explore this aspect in a different direction. I believe the advantages are greater than the disadvantages. I feel positive about the size of my work, how affordable it is for buyers, and I like the flexibility of using magnetic strips on the back of the 24cm diameter tondo pieces mounted on foam board).
I have not detailed each work with dimension, support and title information as yet. This is a draft exhibition which I will discuss with my tutor.
What have I learnt?
I need to decide on what I want to use paint for, either as a way to think about and explore different subjects or issues deeply. I won't just focus on how the painting looks but also on the ideas and messages it conveys.
Do I aim to go beyond the surface and understand the painting's more profound meaning and how it communicates with my viewers, or do I paint from within from what wants to emerge?
How can I do either with the assistance of digital tools?
To use digital painting as a tool seems essential for me to start (by researching and gathering information on the subject from the internet), then photographs perhaps.
Delving into historical, social, or cultural contexts and contemporary debates or scientific findings related to the topic can be enhanced by video interviews or films.
Manipulating, glitching and mirroring images all are aids to see the image differently and more abstractly without having to use paint/drawing.
I know tablets with paint applications, but I dislike the feeling of 'screen painting' entirely. Can I adapt to produce digital from traditional (for example, in my digital tondos)?
How do I translate my perspective into visual concepts?
Identify key themes, symbols, or metaphors that can effectively convey my intended message and evoke specific emotions.
Experimenting with different artistic techniques/interfaces and platforms, styles/materials will help me to find the best way to bring my concept to life.
I am carefully considering how colours, composition, texture, mark-making, or other visual elements can enhance the narrative or convey the intended meaning within a digital context.
Can my artwork spark conversations, challenge assumptions, or raise questions about the chosen topic? Does it need to? Do I want it to?
Will the invitation to contemplate and reflect upon the subject matter by presenting it in an intriguing or thought-provoking manner assist me? Can I enhance this with digital aids?
Considering representing diverse viewpoints or highlighting the complexities and nuances of any topic through painting can be a powerful tool for exploring different narratives.
Using symbolic or metaphorical language to convey abstract concepts or more profound meanings explores how I can utilise these devices to communicate my ideas effectively.
How does my painting's physical presentation enhance or reinforce the intended message?
I need to consider the exhibition space, lighting, placement, or any additional elements that can contribute to the overall experience. This exhibition space can be a digital platform now and is something to consider.
With my painting, do I want to engage with topics critically? Does this mean going beyond mere representation and aesthetics? Does it involve using visual elements, symbols, metaphors, and artistic choices to provoke thought, challenge assumptions, and offer new perspectives on the subjects I explore? Is the digital platform one that can merge my work with the present day? For example, using photographs and textural paint on the surface or collage and encaustic processes.
Can my creative voice contribute to a larger conversation and encourage my audience to reflect, question, and engage with the issues I present within my work?
I want my paintings to explore meaningful subjects and complex issues beyond just looking nice. I hope to engage viewers, encouraging them to think, question, and reflect on the themes I present. However, I'm also considering whether my paintings should purely come from my emotions and memories of places and experiences (to be free from external concerns). I embrace this creative tension as my work evolves and seek to balance being expressive and contributing to a larger conversation.
I love blending different mediums like textured paint, wax, and photography in my painting journey. Digital apps play a crucial role, helping me experiment and enhance my work efficiently. Painting on photos allows me to infuse emotion and depth into the images. These digital tools save time and materials, enabling me to explore various possibilities before finalising my compositions. It's a creative symphony harmonising traditional and digital elements, shaping a unique artistic expression.
