My Formative Feedback
My response is in RED TEXT.
Overall comments
The newest tondo work, "Flare" marks a departure from other expressive works in this series. This seems, in part, to do with symmetry and a noticeable impression of 'wings' within the image. The additional description of the plane landing 'flare' has an interesting correspondence which is also mirrored by some of the bursts in paint. The 'inverted' version also has potential for you to consider different palettes.
I like Flare because I enjoy making organic, chaotic, blended background marks. The blurs and blends reminded me of the feeling of jetlag.
The new photographic prints work very well and create a viable possibility for editioning and exhibiting your work.
I will reflect on and curate a series of digital prints to exhibit them.
Other areas of your learning log continue to demonstrate a full engagement with the course material. You are always studious and responsive to feedback whilst continuing to work with great energy and commitment.
Critical review
Really encouraging to see significant improvements in your writing skills. There is a noticeable uptake in criticality, and the clarity of ideas and the quality of language is also more evident. I have included a track-changed document along with your feedback for consideration.
I started to enjoy writing more with colleague assistance and research learning about the language of writing gave me confidence.
Feedback based on Learning outcomes.
Clear demonstration of independent development and an autonomous approach to research and practice. Proactive in seeking out new creative opportunities and external ventures with continued peer engagement. All work and log entries are extensive and well-presented within an academic format.
Action points
The photographic series work very effectively and have much potential to be expanded (a small collection could be enough to substantiate a show). Previous feedback outlines possibilities for 're-paintings,' and this is still worth considering. You can also consider the process of multiples and editions more broadly in surrounding areas of your practice.
READ, LISTEN AND ACT ON FEEDBACK 9THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE TUTOR HAS MENTIONED 'REPAINTINGS.'
Consider the edges of your paintings – these are important in the viewing experience. Within this, you might also explore the way in which paint is contained or spills over.
You are starting to look at increasing the physical depth of the work, and this could be further developed (including some of the object-based placements we discussed as well as variations in viewing position – lateral, aerial, horizontal…).
Further explore motifs and shape profiles as well as potential for expressive gesture, such as the 'flares' or bursts of certain colours.
Finalise your critical review (see additional track-changed document)
