This module has taken my learning processes and techniques through peaks and troughs in the context of printing.

  • I have used 'play' with paint to create varied marks and outcomes.

  • I have slowed down and reflected more on my work.

  • I have explored the joy of the buttery, silky, diluted or smeared paint more, it makes diverse marks which communicate a narrative dependant on the colour or dilution and which paper it is printed on.

  • I think which size brushes to use how much paint to put on them. Do I load the brush with two colours and smear the paint? Do I dilute the paint with water, glaze or another medium?

  • I think about the layers of my composition and how they work together. Why am I adding colours, what do they bring to the piece?

  • I look and research artists an see how they have used marks or paint, collage or line to enhance the images. Eleanor Moreton for her thinned paint, Kim Edwards for her trace monotype line drawing techniques, Njideka Akunyili Crosby for the layered use of mixed media/collage and Yuko Nasu for the sweeping gestural mark making.

Looking back over my Practice of Painting module sketchbooks has assisted me with mark making and choosing brushes.

  • I want to merge and apply my learning in this module within the assignment pieces.

  • I want to explore and take further some more of the collage pieces with monotypes.

I feel the marriage between collaged paper, paint and mark making will be intriguing. Maybe I am wrong but I won't know unless I experiment.

The images below show variety of line, emotion in the subjects gaze or the underpinning research of artists' techniques. I feel these are the strongest images I have so far.
