Curatorial Play- Connect, Disconnect, Group (3 & 4)

The colour palette and harmony of paintings when they are balanced, layered and displayed together can bring unexpected compositions.

Chromatic Orchids, Foundations and Redacted in a Rectangle are displayed in a layered composition where edges, textures and colours combine seen in multi-viewing positions. For example the side view we see the complimentary colourway of the edges 'jar and 'pop'. Varied sizes, thicknesses, textures and media all work alongside each other.

Using one of my tondo pieces 'Tunnel - encaustic, clay, ink and acrylic on board' I framed a digital copy of the original for the backdrop. The concept I suppose stemmed from research on Marcel Duchamp's Bicycle Wheel (Kinetic art) which shows movement in art and therefore also the passing of time.

The term 'Kinetic art' was first used in 1920 and brought life back into art styles that were seen as old-fashioned. It got its inspiration from Dadaism, a way of breaking art rules. It also used ideas from physics and other sciences to show movement.

The video shows the Kinetic Art in action. A mechanism would need to be attached to perpetually swing the work on the chain. This would be a possibility for exhibiting the pieces. I can portray movement, change, and transformation. I can bring life and activity into my artwork, hopefully conveying a sense of energy and dynamism.
