My Formative Feedback
Overall comments
There is a marked progression in your approach to structure, balance and composition and positive developments in cropping and framing techniques. The 'Tondo Crops' continue to work well in the context of expanded painting and could also make effective studies for new paintings/'re-paintings' (particularly, the first two examples, "Infinite Void" and "Sculpted Whiteness").
Your interest in sculptural relief has developed in the work – sections of "Sintra" explore this with almost mountainous details (emphasised in "Enigma" and "Revelation"). These incisions also have slightly unsettling connotations in slicing and bursting through/out of the painting.
You are starting to explore lateral viewpoints and other ways of creating depth, much like birdseye/aerial vantage points. This is starting to connect the paintings more with the landscape and encourages thinking around paint layering and application as a form of terrain.
The work of Robert Kushner is informative, and you are beginning to connect research with practical experiments in other exciting ways.
Collaborative ventures are positive, and your energy and commitment to developing practice are impressive.
In terms of personal growth and development, and beginning to identify and outline what is working for me as I further investigate and develop. Experimentation and exploration, and learning from these investigations are even more fundamental now as I start to become more selective.
Is my painting revealing something I don’t yet fully understand?
I can’t or don't fully comprehend why I cannot see elements in my painting, and other people can and do. I am fortunate to have that peer connection and input.
Your review draft:
Overall, there is marked improvement in focus and articulation of content for your review.
You don't position or interrogate the notion or potential processes of 'redaction' in the artists' work - Is the review more about defining a figure through forms of pattern rather than redaction?
Feedback based on Learning outcomes
Continued ability to work with independence and reflect on practice in relation to developing interests. Great dedication and enthusiasm with a strong desire to develop learning and peer networks in continued involvement with external creative networks. The body of work and log entries are detailed and well-presented within an academic format.
Action points
Redraft your critical review:
· Can you be more specific about certain distinctions involving artists' use of pattern and the body in each case?
· Consider the value and position of Klimt– can this be taken out from the body text to leave more room to develop the other artists? (Klimt can still be given an introductory mention).
· Focus research and mobilise other perspectives to gain more insight and avoid generalisations (look at key points in other exhibition reviews and quotes).
· Check some of the language. Watch for repetition (unless it is for summary /conclusion). Watch for sentences that are too long or don't add anything. Avoid too generalisations or feelings – always try to back up a statement (eg. quotes & references).
· Your conclusion needs to reinforce the main points / situate the work 'main findings' such as the use of patterns in relation to the body (or other key position).
Further, develop the notion of painting as ‘terrain''’ or landscape - Landscapes connect with the work of Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula (aerial and political/geographical territory, patterns and dreams).
How is a pattern used in Zones? Or in its entirety?
The the''TondoCrops'’ continue to work very well – consider 're-painting'’ / making other paintings from these crops. Consider expanding the Tondos with frames or edges/territories of solid colour, pattern etc. (you are starting to think of frames within frame'’ in the framed painting of Mount Fuji...)
Look at edges in Savdie'ss practice or territories/ geographies, as well as"perversion, identity, and the confines and expanses of the human body”: https://hyperallergic.com/631780/ilana-savdie-maps-electrifying-geographies-deli-gallery/

I am determined to develop and improve my writing skills and feel more confident in my abilities. I have all the resources I need now.
